FAQ's + QUESTIONS TO ASK before you rent
accommodations in Bali:
1. How far are the shops and restaurants?
You may find after you arrive that your dream vacation home is many kilometers away from shops and
restaurants, and local transportation highly unreliable. My house has
restaurants and shops within few minutes walk.
2. Has there been crime in the area? How secure is the house?
Unfortunately Bali, despite being known as The Island Of The Gods, has its share of property crime.
It’s insignificant compared to most other tourist destinations, nonetheless it
exists and in order to protect yourself you must be aware of it.
Once in a while we hear of a purse snatching, house break-in, hotel room theft, and
wallets and valuables being stolen from purses left unattended. We have never
had a break in and the house is surrounded by a wall with a locked gate.
3. Would we need our own car or just a cab to the villa and then walk?
A. You can walk from my house to the centre of town in 15 minutes. There are fabulous restaurants, museums and art galleries within 5 minute walk. Local taxi service is available at two locations short walk from the house.
If you want to make trips around the island it’s best to get a car and driver, the cost is very reasonable around US $45 per day. If you want to rent a car we can recommend a reasonable and reliable car and motorbike rental.
4. Is there a housekeeper to change linens and towels?
A. Yes, the housekeeper does the daily house cleaning and prepares breakfast (you must purchase own food) (except Sundays and religious holidays).
5. How do we pay?
To confirm the booking we need 50% deposit. We accept Visa, MasterCard, Paypal or international money orders.
Balance is payable on arrival by cash, Paypal or credit card (Visa & MasterCard only)
6. Is the house within walking distance of the beach?
A. No, Ubud is 20 km away from the nearest beach (Sanur).
There are closer beaches, but they’re not suitable for swimming.
7. Is there a swimming pool?
A. No, the house does not have a swimming pool.
However hotels in the area charge a small fee for non-guests’ use of their pool.
The closest one is Melati Cottages, just 250 m down the path, with gorgeous
gardens and a restaurant. You can pay daily (about $2) or negotiate a better
rate for your entire stay. Houses with swimming pools rent for more than twice
the price of my house ($2,000 to $2,500/month) so it makes sense to pay $50-$60
per month for the use of the hotel swimming pool rather than $1000 more
per month for the use of your villa's swimming pool.
8. Is it quiet?
A. Yes. We are in the middle of rice paddies, away from any
road noise. You will hear birds, frogs, crickets, roosters and geckos, and
occasionally humans walking by. If you like to sleep in - you may want to bring
earplugs, as the birds start early in the morning..
9. Can I rent it long term for 1 or 2 years?
A. Unfortunately long term is not possible. Maximum rental is 4 months, depending on other bookings and my own use of the house.
10 Can we cook our own meals?
A. Yes, the kitchen comes with fridge, small gas stove, pots and pans, dishes and
utensils. There is a fully stocked supermarket within 10 minutes walk. There are
also 3 wonderful little local restaurants that will deliver full meals to the
house (they're within 5 minutes walk from the house). There is also a pizza
delivery service - Pizza Bagus (and their pizza is delicious).

We have totally
fallen in love with the place... Everything is flowing wonderfully — the house

We had such a fabulous time staying at your place. We hope
we can do it again soon! We miss Bali sooooo much!
-------- Matt and Erin,

I’m loving your house.
Though I’d been to Penestanan many times to visit friends or pass
through, I’d never actually spent one night here. It’s very nice.
Thanks.
